Cynthia Hooker is the Founder and CEO of Cynthia's Breast Cancer Giving Circle, Inc. located in Milwaukee, WI. She has been blessed to overcome Breast Cancer twice: diagnosed in April 2007 and October 2009. Her view on life has changed tremendously as a result of the life altering challenges. The passion within Cynthia is a genuine concern to help others by hopefully easing some of the stress that is associated with financial hardship while going through the cancer experience.
During her treatments of chemotherapy, radiation, and cardiac rehabilitation, which was due to a side effect that caused congestive heart failure, she was subjected to a large amount of medical expenses while trying to maintain her basic living expenses. Although she had medical insurance and received disability coverage from her employer, Cynthia still encountered financial set-backs.
In addition, toward the end of Cynthia's journey she experienced another challenge and it was related to breast reconstruction, which has now enhanced her concern toward the significance of awareness for breast health and education.
Below is a brief testimony of Cynthia's journey:
"I am so grateful to God for allowing me to still be here and for my healing. Going through the journey twice, is beyond words! It was hard enough to keep my mind focused on my healing while being concerned about my bills at the same time.
Being a very independent person, I didn't want anyone to know how bad things had gotten but soon learned that I needed to humble myself and let my family know. The love and support of my family was such a comfort to me; especially, when my disability benefits were reduced to 65% of my pay. God provided for the financial gaps to be filled by touching the hearts of my family and close friends. As months went by I made strides to see which programs were available to me so that I wouldn't become a burden to my family. Unfortunately, when I found a few programs that I thought I might be eligible for I was denied.
Therefore, out of my disappointments, the vision of CBCGC, Inc. was birthed. I believe God allowed the experience to occur for me to get an understanding. I am so fortunate to have family and friends that were in a position to help. I thank God for them!
My hope is that many in need will be blessed by Cynthia's Breast Cancer Giving Circle."
